Taco Bell Black Jack Taco TV Commercial

I just saw the new TV commercial for the Taco Bell Black Jack Taco. This is going into my list of worst TV commercials I have seen. First of all, they compare the Black Jack Taco to black boots, a black dress, a black dog, and a black eye. Wow, isn't that appealing! Seeing a black dog and a black eye make me want to run out and try the Black Jack Taco.... NOT!

And, the Black Jack Taco itself looks disgusting. The black taco shell looks like it is horribly burnt. It is just plain nasty. My guess is this hideous product will be discontinued within 6-months... if it even makes it that long.

This is a great example of what not to do in advertising.

I didn't think the commercial was to compare these "black" items. in my opinion it is a play on the "learn while you sleep" strategies. Its kind of clever actually, it hasn't been done before to my knowledge, if I am correct. The taco isn't that good by the way.

If we have to "think" what the commercial means and what it is about, it is a bad commercial. A commercial is meant to sell something - not be clever - although a lot of ad agencies do not understand they are being paid to sell a product, not be so "clever" that nobody knows what they hell they are talking about. If you think I am wrong, read the advertising masters like David Ogilvy. They will tell you the same thing.

I disagree. If a commercial plays and you end up "thinking" about it at all, they win. The purpose is to put the idea of the product into your head. If the commercial leaves you thinking about it in any way at all, even if it's trying to figure out what the hell they were trying to convey, the commercial has done it's job.
